All the great masters from Jesus to Buddha and Muhammad have set an example for their followers to fast. In the yogic system too, fasting holds a long tradition, and for many good reasons! The latest scientific findings show fasting is an effective method for purifying the body. By stopping food intake for a limited period, we allow the body to clean itself and eliminate accumulated toxins. Animals instinctively fast when they fall sick, while humans neglect this vital lifestyle practice.

Why should we fast?

The typical human diet consists of foods and drinks that tend to increase acidity in the body. This causes toxins to build up and acts as a catalyst for many different diseases. Some toxins are cleared out through the kidneys or bowels, while many cling to the tissues, organs, arteries, and veins and gradually accumulate over time. These are more difficult to remove. In such a condition, the body and the organs become weak and various diseases may develop. For the body to heal completely, we must thoroughly cleanse it of all accumulated waste products and toxins through fasting.

Usually, it’s the physical benefits of fasting that first catch people’s attention, but fasting also offers wonderful benefits for the mind! What to expect?

Initially, fasting may seem intimidating, but fasting in a like-minded community can be quite enjoyable. Together, we will do soothing yoga classes as well as guided meditations and throughout the day you will be served delicious fruit and vegetable juices packed with energy and nutrition for your body to rejuvenate.

In this short three-day retreat you will learn everything you need to know about fasting like; how to fast, when to fast, how to break the fast etc. So, you can easily integrate fasting into your lifestyle at home whenever you want.

What’s the retreat like?

Everyone arrives Friday afternoon, and we begin the retreat with an exciting class about all the “ins and outs” of fasting. In the evening, we serve a light meal to prepare the body for its upcoming digestive rest. The entire Saturday, we will fast on lots of nutritious juices made from fresh fruits and vegetables. You will enjoy classes on various aspects of yoga, meditation, and a healthy lifestyle, and take walks in the nearby forest. Every morning and evening you will enjoy guided yoga and meditation classes. Sunday morning, we will break the fast and end the retreat with a delicious breakfast.
